Last year Vattenfall with What If Lab invited several companies for creative solutions what to do with end of life wind turbines. All design companies with Vattenfall came to our storage to see how used wind turbines look and what to be done with them when a second life is not an option anymore. One of the design companies was Super Use, related to Blade Made. They designed a Tiny house made of a V80 nacelle, called Nestle.
This week the V80 nacelle was ready, because all components were taken out to be sold as Spare parts by our Business in Wind Parts division. The nacelle is transported to Rotterdam to be converted in a Tiny house which will be shown on the Dutch Design week. That’s why a camera crew of the Dutch VPRO was on site to interview architect Jos de Krieger from Blade Made/Super Use. The result will be broadcasted on the Dutch tv channel NPO3 ‘De Wereld van Dutch Design’ during the Dutch Design week in Oktober this year. (📸1,2,3)

Derck van Ommeren and Teunis van den Brink went to California, Kansas and Chigago to visit two wind farms and potential suppliers and partners. We have to refurbish several V80 wind turbines to replace other V80s which are not operational anymore for different reasons. An interesting extension of our working area. (📸4,5,6,7)
New facility
Our contractor, Van de Vliert is working hard to prepare concrete floor. The basement is ready, floor for the workshop will be poured soon. This will be a 53cm thick concrete floor with many tonnes of reinforcement steel to enable us to enter with 130T trucks, store nacelles, drive trains, generators without problems. (📸8,9)
Climbing Wall
When you visit the Maritiem Museum Rotterdam you can see what is possible with wind turbine blades. In a previous version of Dutch Design week, a climbing wall out of a blade was shown as an example what can be done with end of life blades. This was made by us according a Blade Made design. (📸10)
Produce other things from blades is not our core business, but together with architects we do work on RePurpose of blades all for responsible circularity.
